For sun, surf, sand and fun with the family, Hilton Head Island should be your next destination for that family vacation. Located in South Carolina, the island is home to beautiful sand beaches, amazing golf courses and a diverse range of activities that the children will really enjoy. Here are 25 things you can do with the kids there:

1. Head to the beach

The island has over 12 miles of white sand beaches where your kids will love to frolic and play. Head to either Coligny, Driessen Beach or Islanders Beach parks for playgrounds and picnics.

2. Visit the Lighthouse

The island features a red and white striped lighthouse which you can climb to the top of with your kids for spectacular views of the island.

3. Use the bike trails

One of the great qualities about Hilton Head Island is that it is a smaller island, so cars aren’t necessary. Miles and miles of bike paths make traveling by bike super easy, and a great adventure for the whole family.

4. See the butterflies

The Coastal Discovery Museum is a joy for small children since it offers scavenger hunts along with a beautiful butterfly exhibit for just $5 per child.

5. Visit the Honey Horn Campus

If you want your kids to know more about the Lowcountry along with its history and cultural heritage, then the Honey Horn Campus should be one of your main stops with the kids.

6. Visit the wildlife refuge

The Pinckney Island Wildlife Refuge is a must-visit for families who love nature and all it has to offer. The reserve offers nature classrooms and is a favorite spot for wildlife photographers as well.

The Harbor Town Grill offers a kid friendly menu which features favorites ranging from grilled salmon to pizza. Stay in that spot if you want your family to enjoy sing-alongs from the guitarist who teaches the crowd silly songs.

8. Visit Live Oac

There is way more to see around the island than on it and if you want to know what you are missing, Live Oac can help. It’s a popular adventure company on the island which has been taking families around to explore it since 1996.

9. Disney never fails

If you just want to relax in your room at the resort or the rental, consider renting out a villa at the Disney Hilton Head Island Resort. Each comes with a full kitchen and many Disney inspired activities for the kiddies.

10. Try H2O Sports

What’s the use of visiting an island if you cannot have fun on the water? Hilton Head allows every visitor to do just that via Harbour Town Marina where you can sign up for several H2O Sports activities.

11. Zip down the ZipLine

Zip down Hilton Head from 75 feet up in the air for a thrill of a lifetime. Your family will love soaring between ancient pines and oaks while enjoying amazing views of the marshes and boats that make up the island.

12. Dine at the Java Burrito Company

For scrumptious burritos and a fully equipped coffee bar head to the Java Burrito Company. The diner offers the best atmosphere for a relaxed family hangout and has food to back up its popularity.

13. Have fun at the spa

The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort offers families a range of family events so much so that you will have a hard time choosing. These include poolside movies, nature walks and sack races to name a few.

14. Visit Daufuskie Island

Daufuskie Island is a small island just off the coast of HHI that has just 250 people in residence. However, it also features resorts where you can take the whole family and have fun while at it.

15. Enjoy Seafood

If you enjoy fresh seafood and your family does too, then Hudson’s Seafood House should be one of your stops. The restaurant overlooks the port and offers spectacular views of the catch of the day as it comes in.

16. Explore the reserve

The  Audubon Society at the Hilton Head provides regular guided tours through the Preserve’s ecosystems which boast a range of indigenous flora and fauna that thrive there.

17. Ride the Catamarans

A sunset cruise with the family will be safe and memorable on the island’s catamarans and you can take them for private sailing lessons or a trip around the island.

18. Visit the plaza

The plaza located at Coligny is perfect for families who wish to do some shopping while having fun. Treat your kids with Italian Ice from Rita’s or just sit by the pond and watch the ducks. At nights the Big Bamboo starts swinging with live bands that are great for the adults.

19. Dine at the Live Oak

The best time to enjoy everything the Live Oak restaurant has to offer is to come for brunch. Enjoy magnificent views of the Plantation Golf Club’s green expanse and your kids will love the food too.

20. Take a marsh tour

There are several companies that will take you through the wetlands via kayak, canoe, or boat to tour the beautiful areas that house so much wildlife around the island.

21. Enjoy the fireworks

In the summer months, the island blazes to life with fireworks on Tuesdays once the sun goes down over Shelter Cove Harbor. Visit in June through August to see them in person with the family.

22. Visit Adventure Cove

This family entertainment center is located in the middle of the island and offers a video arcade along with mini golf.

23. Visit Bristol Sports Park

This is a public skate park where you and the kids can use the basketball and roller hockey rink as much as you want to.

24. Visit Shelter Cove Community Park

This waterfront park has a wonderful boardwalk to enjoy the view, with lots of room for the kids to run and play. In the summers this park hosts many festivals and music events. The playground is a great place for kids to let out some energy before heading across the street to one of the many restaurants for dinner or lunch.

25. Head to the Sandbox

This is a hands-on interactive museum which offers a range of activities for kids and educational play options.
